Training plans built on published equine science.
For jumping, dressage, and eventing horses — with every recommendation graded as evidence, extrapolated, or convention, and safety coded into the maths.
Built on the research
Plans from the evidence — not from tradition.
Equine Trainer builds training plans for jumping, dressage, and eventing horses from published work on conditioning, tendon loading, injury epidemiology, and training adaptation. Add a horse, set a target, and get a periodised plan with every recommendation graded honestly.
It is built and maintained by Equine Science NZ — and where the general rules end, our consulting and services begin.
- Periodised plans from published rules
- Every recommendation graded and sourced
- Safety limits the plan cannot exceed

How it works
Science, honesty, and safety — built in.
Built on the research
Plans derive from published work on conditioning, tendon loading, injury epidemiology, and training adaptation — not on tradition.
Honest about what we know
Every recommendation is tagged as evidence, extrapolated, or convention, with the source visible. Roughly 45% of standard periodisation practice has no direct experimental support — most apps present it as fact. We don't.
Safety built into the maths
Training load is calculated by code, never by an AI. Injury history, age, ground conditions, and tendon loading act as hard limits the plan cannot exceed.
Who it’s for
For the three Olympic disciplines.
Built for riders, owners, coaches, and equine professionals who want training grounded in evidence rather than tradition.
Jumping
Conditioning that respects tendon loading and competition schedules for show jumping horses.
Dressage
Strength and suppleness work that fits a dressage horse's collection and symmetry demands.
Eventing
Cross-phase fitness across dressage, cross country, and show jumping for the event horse.
Core features
What the app does.
Evidence-graded plans
Add a horse, set a target, and get a periodised plan with every recommendation graded.
Honest sourcing
Each call is tagged as evidence, extrapolated, or convention, with the source visible to you.
Safety-coded load limits
Injury history, age, ground conditions, and tendon loading act as hard limits the plan cannot exceed.
Load by code, not AI
Training load is calculated by deterministic code, never generated by an AI guessing at numbers.
Periodised progress
Structured build, peak, and recovery phases tuned to your target date and discipline.
Jumping, dressage, eventing
Plans built for the three Olympic disciplines, with discipline-specific loading considerations.
Heart-rate zones
Population assumptions replaced by your horse's actual zones through optional field fitness testing.
Rehab-aware
Injury history shapes what the plan will and will not allow across a return-to-work campaign.
Where we come in
What the app doesn’t do — and where Equine Science NZ does.
Equine Trainer builds plans from general rules. It doesn’t measure this individual horse, weigh a complex injury history, or make judgement calls on a campaign. That’s the honest division of labour — and it’s where Equine Science NZ comes in. The services below cover what the rules cannot.
Services
Consulting that covers what the rules can’t.
Available alongside the app, from Equine Science NZ — in person across New Zealand and remote worldwide.
Plan Review
An exercise physiologist reviews a generated plan against the horse's history and goals.
Field Fitness Testing
Standardised exercise test to establish this horse's actual heart-rate maximum and training zones rather than population assumptions.
Bespoke Programme Build
A fully individualised plan for a campaign, built around the individual horse.
Rehabilitation Oversight
Professional supervision of a return-to-work programme, adjusting as the horse responds.
Ongoing Support
Retained access to our expertise through a full season of campaigning.
Part of a wider ecosystem
More than a training app.
Equine Trainer is part of the wider Equine Science NZ technology ecosystem — built by a science and technology company for the equine industry, with EquineAI™ underpinning much of our work across performance, stable management, and operations.
